15% of Google employees doesn’t
have a degree, because our education system is outdated & could not prepare
everyone to be best by teaching through the same pedagogy. It was built at the
time of Industrial revolution, it was built to make that age sustainable but
today at this point of time when the world is changing at much faster pace
& machines/artificial intelligence is taking over every part of our world,
it is consuming the need of man power & thus the required skill sets have
changed, if you keep doing what others were doing 10 years back, you are
already living the past and thus your success graph would be fading away.
“Being constant in respect of the
growing world results downfall.”
Today, how many of us have
smartphones, laptops, computers, gadgets & are using the same by last 5
years? Only about 3-4%, why? Because the technology is changing and outdating very
soon, and we as a human being want to have an updated version. Peter Diamandis
once said “There will be as many changes between 2016-22 due to exponential
technology growth as between 1900-2000”. That is more than 2000%, and to deal
with this rapid and fast evolving world, our education system should upgrade
with the same rate. We are not at the age where there used to be a panditji
finding the perfect bride/groom, we have upgraded to matrimonial sites/whatsapp
groups to have more information easily & effectivily. We have updated
ourselves to getting the real time location of trains/flights and not wasting
hours & hours at station/airport waiting for it. We are out of the age
where a common man didn’t got the chance to raise his voice and ask PM for the
road between mountains to making any video, post or tweet going viral in no
time & forcing govt or authorities to take immediate action. This is the
age where pre-election rallies not only walk down to roads and blocks but also
through the social/print/digital media. At this era of continuous change &
innovation we are still running an old age traditional way of education thus
increasing every year the unemployment, depression, suicides, frustrations
& many more.
Deemed colleges are taking over
universities, PGDM taking over traditional MBA, because the requirements are
changing, now the criteria of hiring is not entirely based on academics but is
more over based on the knowledge a candidate has gathered, whether he/she has
the capability to understand the changing environment over time and do the best
accordingly.
Thus, this traditional education
system being born years back needs to change. It is the time that people from
different grounds working on the development of education should stand together
& create a curriculum not as per boards (CBSE, State, IB,etc) but autonomous
working not only in building profile of a student just by academics, but it is
also schools duty to find the uniqueness & strength of a child and groom those
skills to be meritorious not the exam papers.
This would not only take out the
pain from the child’s mind to run a rat-race to score 99% but we will be
preparing their skills to survive at the coming time. A very important aspect
of rise in unemployment in India is we are creating robots & teaching
everyone same subjects, same course, same books, rather than giving them more
specific idea about their strength & more of industry exposure.
A great dancer or singer or
player doesn’t grow on trees or made over night, they are made by finding their
talent & fuelling it with proper guidance, support & infrastructure to
nurture. This should be the approach so that a student should know what he/she
is doing. The age of being successful is decreasing, as life is offering too
much, not only the opportunities but responsibilities as well, after getting
hit by life it is very hard to standup & pursue what an individual is best
at. At that point of time the question becomes of survival & not the
success or following the passion, some do cross those boundaries by sacrificing
a lot & make it to success but for others their talent goes deep inside the
heart & responsibility takes over.
We, the educationists & the
future makers should take a stand & change it for the betterment of India.
