Most common & wrong practices of Career Selection

Parental Pressure: Parents, who always want to give best to their child goes with a lot of pressure themselves to find the right option, thus mostly end up with their own desires (what they wanted to become) or look at the most common option which according to them has a great scope in the near future.

Societal Influence: Generally a student meets a lot of people in his life who has different professions, these people and their professions make a lot of impact into their mind and these influences most of the decisions and career paths. For example: If someone’s uncle is in Indian Army, this kid and their parents most likely to look at all the possibilities to try for it.

Scope: This is the toughest question any parents & students go through as the student walks towards the first step of his career. This is the law of nature that whatever comes has to go, everything obsoletes and thus there is no field that has a good scope. With the advancement of time and technology everyday new thing is coming and old is expiring, “So there is no career option that has great scope.”

Trend: Trend and scope is nearly same but different, scope is something parents or individual things will help them in future or will have a lot of Job with it, whereas trend is something when everyone is going to the same scope. For example: Always the scope of being a sales guy is available as every field, every company needs a person to sell whatever they are producing so a sales guy (if good in it) will always find job. Trend is like 10 years back there was a lot of scope in IT sector, people started sending their kids to study anything that could get them job in IT sector without realizing that by the time these student will come out of college most probably there could be recession or no job.

Friend's way: Though we have seen a steep decrease of this practice in recent times, still many of the students just select their subject for 11th because his/her best friend is taking it without realizing their own interest and potential.

Internet: In this era of rapid growth, industrialization, globalization and reach to the world & availability of Internet into the palms of every student & access to a lot of knowledge, student and parents Google “what are the career options that has huge scope?” and finds a numerous options. But knowledge has this trait that it can do wonders only if you have right amount and right piece of it “A Little knowledge is a dangerous thing”. It’s not just the name of profession or degree that needs a consideration, but there are various other factors like 5 Pillars.

Advertisements: In this Billion dollar Education market, a very influential part is being played by various coaching institutes and their advertisements stating the scope of what they teach as well few brand ambassadors who have successfully completed their term and scored something recognizable. These advertisements create a huge buzz over the mind of children and they without recognizing their interest and talent goes ahead to pursue it as career, which might be good for those brand ambassadors but not for them.

Non-professional guidance: This again is aligning with the parental pressure or societal influence, or the guide who themselves talk or suggest only on the scope or trend or the area they are associated with, like when you go to a coaching institute, they will tell you all the merits & scope of the field they are associated with for two reasons, First that will bring them business and second that’s what all they know. Similarly everyone only understands the area they are associated with and that’s again like “A student is going to do only what his/her mentor knows the areas, not beyond that”.
This also includes when you go and watch a movie on astronaut, or an athlete or the struggle and success of a Techno-Geek and suddenly you want to become that or any public figure whose success story grabs your attention.

What needs to be considered here is every individual whether a student or professional is different. In the set of students who are going through the same school, getting same set of teachers, getting same access to knowledge everyone is different in their characteristics, nature, approach, interest, aptitude etc. therefore their approach towards finding a successful career path should be different.

How to find a Suitable Career Path

Hello Friends,

"You are the Creator ; You have always been & will always be in complete control of your Fate & Destiny"

Today I am going to touch a very important topic "How to select a right career"

In India, it has been a trend that parents choose what their children will become in the future even before these children are born (most of the time it's rather Doctor or Engineer, CA or Lawyer) and even these career options are based on only what the society or parents feel would be an high earning job because the said career option gives a stable career and high remunerations.
The problem is not on their thinking or expectations, the problem is that actually  they don't know what they are expecting their kid to be like, whether he/she will like it or not. The thing is everything and every good scope changes with time, an option which was at the peak 10 years ago is not certainly good today as well. The only thing that is inevitable is change and thus a good career option also changes with time.

After an intense research, I found out that only a high paying job is not the definition of a happy & successful career but it has few other associated factors too:-

1. Interest: Every human being is different and Unique, even the almighty or the creator has made every one different from another. As every person is different so are their interests.
There is always something that fascinates us more than anything else in the world say it playing games or travelling, talking or reading. This fascination that if we keep on working on that throughout the day or month or year, we don't get tired is called "Interest" and this interest should be a vital ingredient when selecting a career. Career should come out from the thing that fascinates us. "The only thing that will keep you pursuing on what ever you do even at the bad times is your Love for that thing."
2. Aptitude: Every one is born with a different aptitude. Attributes like Numerical ability,  proficiency in Languages, Creativity, understanding ability & How we think in a situation or react at different circumstances  make our Aptitude. Every career requires a different set of skills and aptitude, and thus we need to think whether our interest is aligning with aptitude or not.

3. Personality: The word "Personality" is a very broad term, people misjudge it with the way one looks or the clothes they have in their wardrobe, but it is much more than this "A Personality is a beautiful sum up of how we dress ourselves to how we talk, how we treat others to how we behave in odd situations. Confidence, Attitude & Reaction comprises the word personality".

4. Academics: This is the most important factor, everything revolves down what your academic score is but not completely. Academics on my view is just a filtration on future goals, like marks of class 10th filters an individual student that what subject he is going to get in 11th and thus this creates a base of further education; similarly marks of 12th and few competitive exams mark filters on whether a student is getting the institution he/she desires and the branch or course they would like to pursue.

5. Affordability: Though this is a part which should not be considered, but as approaching to every avenues includes the investment in learning and this investment varies as per the choice of career therefore this becomes very important point. This could be from few thousands to various lakhs depending on the profession and colleges.

Selecting a right way to your bright career depends on all these five major factors
