Most common & wrong practices of Career Selection

Parental Pressure: Parents, who always want to give best to their child goes with a lot of pressure themselves to find the right option, thus mostly end up with their own desires (what they wanted to become) or look at the most common option which according to them has a great scope in the near future.

Societal Influence: Generally a student meets a lot of people in his life who has different professions, these people and their professions make a lot of impact into their mind and these influences most of the decisions and career paths. For example: If someone’s uncle is in Indian Army, this kid and their parents most likely to look at all the possibilities to try for it.

Scope: This is the toughest question any parents & students go through as the student walks towards the first step of his career. This is the law of nature that whatever comes has to go, everything obsoletes and thus there is no field that has a good scope. With the advancement of time and technology everyday new thing is coming and old is expiring, “So there is no career option that has great scope.”

Trend: Trend and scope is nearly same but different, scope is something parents or individual things will help them in future or will have a lot of Job with it, whereas trend is something when everyone is going to the same scope. For example: Always the scope of being a sales guy is available as every field, every company needs a person to sell whatever they are producing so a sales guy (if good in it) will always find job. Trend is like 10 years back there was a lot of scope in IT sector, people started sending their kids to study anything that could get them job in IT sector without realizing that by the time these student will come out of college most probably there could be recession or no job.

Friend's way: Though we have seen a steep decrease of this practice in recent times, still many of the students just select their subject for 11th because his/her best friend is taking it without realizing their own interest and potential.

Internet: In this era of rapid growth, industrialization, globalization and reach to the world & availability of Internet into the palms of every student & access to a lot of knowledge, student and parents Google “what are the career options that has huge scope?” and finds a numerous options. But knowledge has this trait that it can do wonders only if you have right amount and right piece of it “A Little knowledge is a dangerous thing”. It’s not just the name of profession or degree that needs a consideration, but there are various other factors like 5 Pillars.

Advertisements: In this Billion dollar Education market, a very influential part is being played by various coaching institutes and their advertisements stating the scope of what they teach as well few brand ambassadors who have successfully completed their term and scored something recognizable. These advertisements create a huge buzz over the mind of children and they without recognizing their interest and talent goes ahead to pursue it as career, which might be good for those brand ambassadors but not for them.

Non-professional guidance: This again is aligning with the parental pressure or societal influence, or the guide who themselves talk or suggest only on the scope or trend or the area they are associated with, like when you go to a coaching institute, they will tell you all the merits & scope of the field they are associated with for two reasons, First that will bring them business and second that’s what all they know. Similarly everyone only understands the area they are associated with and that’s again like “A student is going to do only what his/her mentor knows the areas, not beyond that”.
This also includes when you go and watch a movie on astronaut, or an athlete or the struggle and success of a Techno-Geek and suddenly you want to become that or any public figure whose success story grabs your attention.

What needs to be considered here is every individual whether a student or professional is different. In the set of students who are going through the same school, getting same set of teachers, getting same access to knowledge everyone is different in their characteristics, nature, approach, interest, aptitude etc. therefore their approach towards finding a successful career path should be different.

“CareerPath helps every student or professionals to find out what they love doing and how to go towards it”
